LCCC Civic Orchestra Season Opens October 2

The Lorain County Community College Civic Orchestra will open its
2010-2011 concert season with a couple who make beautiful music together
at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, October 2 in LCCC's Stocker Arts Center.

The concert will feature Christine and Anthony Fuoco who will display
their piano artistry together in Francis Poulenc's clever and brilliant
"Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in D Minor."

This season, orchestra director Robert Beckstrom will feature works that
were composed by students of LCCC's Distinguished Visiting Professor,
Jeffrey Mumford. The work chosen for the Oct. 2 show is "Snilla,"
composed by Xenia Beckstrom. Her composition explores orchestral colors
and evolves into a Saya, a Bolivian folkloric dance.

The concert will climax with Igor Stravinsky's ingenious "Symphony in
C." The first half was composed in Switzerland, the second half in the
United States. The fun-loving nature of this piece is in contrast to
Stravinsky's circumstances, as his daughter and wife had died in the
previous year.

The performance is sponsored by the LCCC Arts and Humanities division.

Tickets are $7 for general admission; $6 for LCCC students and staff;
and $6 for Buckeye cardholders. For more information, contact the
Stocker Arts Center box office at 800-995-5222, extension 4040, or
direct at 440-366-4040. The box office is open from 12-6 p.m., Monday
through Friday.
