> Sit-In at the Five & Dime, a concert reading of a new musical inspired by the “trainings” for the Nashville Sit-Ins. Set in the fall of 1959, this piece focuses on the lives of three fictional Fisk University students. With book and lyrics by Marjorie Duffield and music by Janice Lowe, this evening of original musical theatre offers an opportunity to reflect on one of the nation’s most dynamic examples of non-violent social action and civic engagement. The commitment of this principled group of students, community folk and leaders changed minds and changed history. In celebration of the Case-Fisk Partnership, we hope you will join us for this very special program. The writer and composer will engage the audience in dialogue after the performance about their inspirations for the piece – as well as the movement, the message, and the meaning of both to American history.
