I have a Numark MixMeister Control dj mixer which is used to control MixMeister DJ software, it is also midi mappable to other DJ software.

this system is excellent for a novice DJ, A dance troupe that needs to edit and mix music at a professionla level but is short on money and a dedicated dj.
it has an auto mix function that smooths over many of the common problems your dance school experiences. it can also burn the cd directly from the program so you no longer have to hae a list of pitch and tempo changes for the audio tech to do for you during your recital.

its seriously easy to use, i run it off of a netbook, so any laptop should do.

$150.00 gets you the mixer and software, 
$150 more gets the netboox ive been using.
