Directed by Kim Godfrey, the show is set in the year is 1962 and Baltimore's
Tracy Turnblad is going to do whatever it takes to dance her way onto TV's
most popular show! Can a big girl with big dreams, and even bigger hair,
turn the whole town around and still have time to win the boy she loves?
This dancing, romancing musical-comedy treat is based on John Waters' 1988
film classic, with a book by Mark O'Donnell and two-time Tony Award-winner
Thomas Meehan and a brand-new score by five-time Oscar-
nominee Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman.
Performance dates will be Jan. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 2011.
Participants should prepare a short song and short monologue. Bring a list
of any date conflicts you may have during the rehearsal and performance
period.
If you've never before auditioned or would like a brush-up, a two-week
Audition Workshop with Kim Godfrey will be held for adults and teens on
Saturdays, Oct. 16 & Oct. 23 from 10:30 a.m. - noon. This workshop will
help answer all of your questions and help you feel at ease about auditions.
Bring a song or a monologue to try out as a mock audition. The second
session of the workshop will include a mock dance call so you can see what
the real deal is like. Wear clothes and shoes you can comfortably move in.
Pre-registration is required and the cost for the two day event is $15.
The Ashtabula Arts Center is located at 2928 West 13th Street in Ashtabula.
Call (440) 964-3396 for more information.
