       STEALING KLIMT

British director Jane Chablani tells the true story in documentary form of Maria Altman's struggle to claim her pictures, which were painted by Gustav Klimt and stolen by the Nazis in 1938. The Austrian painter Gustav Klimt was known for befriending and painting the portraits of wealthy women, and he was so enamored of Maria's aunt Adele Bloch-Bauer, that he painted her twice and made hundreds of sketches of her. When the Nazis marched into Vienna the world changed forever. "The Holocaust was not only one of the greatest murders in history, it was also one of the greatest thefts in history," explains Professor of Law, Michael Bazyler. The Golden portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer by Gustav Klimt, completed 100 years ago, recently sold at auction for a record sum. Film produced by BBC.
