Documentary film about celebrated New York - City African - American painter, who wowed the art world before dying in 1988,  at the age of 27. His life in the film is profiled by one of his friends. Jean was a roll model and a friend of famous Andy Warhol. Director Tamra Davis pays homage to her friend in this definitive documentary but also delves into Basquiat as an iconoclast. His dense, bebop-influenced neoexpressionist work emerged while minimalist, conceptual art was the fad; as a successful black artist, he was constantly confronted by racism and misconceptions.
Special admission is $10; CMA members, seniors 65 & over, and students $8; no passes or vouchers.
