The nerdy orphan Seymour Krelborn (Zach Wendeln) works at Mushnik's, a flower shop in urban Skid Row. He harbors a crush on fellow co-worker Audrey (Meg Martinez) and is berated by Mr. Mushnik (Mac Kimmerle) daily. One day Seymour finds a very mysterious unidentified plant which he calls Audrey II (Reid Welsh). Seymour discovers the plant's rather unique appetite and suddenly begins to sing for its supper!
Soon enough, Seymour introduces Audrey's sadistic dentist boyfriend (Zach Zockoll) to the plant. The plant grows and grows, as does Seymour's infatuation for Audrey, but who will get her first? A funky trio of street urchins named Crystal (True Debolt), Ronnette (Emma Leonard) and Chiffon (Micah Collins-Sibley) lend their vocals to this rock musical spoofing the style of early 1960s rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown music for this charming, tuneful and hilarious musical with tongue firmly planted in cheek!
Directed by Margaret Karam, Little Shop of Horrors is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
Little Shop of Horrors will open on Friday, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m., with additional performances Saturday, Oct. 30 at 8 p.m. and a matinee Sunday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m.
If you come in costume for the Saturday evening performance, admission is free! Also, trick-or-treat for our younger audience will be held during intermission at Sunday's matinee.
All performances are held in the Knight Fine Arts Center, located at the corner of Hudson-Aurora and Oviatt Streets. Tickets available at the door are $8 for adults and $4 for students. For further information, please call 330.650.9744 ext. 3.
