Geauga Lyric Theater will be presenting "The Miracle Worker", the famous tale of
how Annie Sullivan breaks through Helen Keller's silent world.
Auditions will be at the GLTG Annex. All interested parties come prepared to
cold read. Contact GLTG for further information.
Director has planned a six week production schedule for this three act show. The
first three weeks will be dedicated to putting each act together and the final
three weeks will be learning how to make those three acts turn into one complete
show.
The production will begin working on January 2, 2011. Helen, Annie and Kate will
start earlier.
Director, Lisa-Marie French is casting for the three act drama "The Miracle
Worker"
being presented by the Geauga Lyric Theater Guild in Chardon, Ohio.
Auditions for Annie Sullivan, Helen Keller, Captain Keller and Kate Keller will
be on:
Sunday, November, 21 from 2 to 5 PM and Monday, November 22, from 6:30 to 9 PM.
This date is for ONLY those 4 main characters.
Auditions for all other characters will be on:
Sunday, December 5 from 2 to 5 PM and Monday, December 6 from 6:30 to 9 PM.
Show opens on Friday, February 11 and runs three weekends with shows
Friday/Saturday 8 PM and Sunday 2 PM. Approximate run time 2 1/2 hours per show.
Below is a breakdown of casting needs and desires of the director for each role.
Please feel free to pass this information on to anyone you know that loves
theater and might wish to participate.
Casting list:
Seeking actress 18 to 40 for the role of:
Annie Sullivan - 20 years old woman assigned to be Helen Keller's teacher.
Annie has lived a very difficult life in her short 20 years. As Helen's teacher,
she is kicked, hit, bit and has her hair pulled. Annie needs an actress that can
handle the physical demands along with the ability to memorize a large amount
of dialogue. Knowledge of finger spelling advantageous, but not
required.
Seeking an actress that can look like a young girl.
Helen Keller - 6 1/2 years old, blind and deaf from age 18 months. Helen speaks
only
one word of dialogue, however she is in the majority of the show. Helen must be
able to be present without reacting to any sight or sound. Knowledge of finger
spelling
advantageous but not required.
Seeking a mature man of 35 or more for the role of:
Captain Keller, father of Helen, daughter with his second wife and James, son
with his first wife.
Seeking a mature woman 25 or more for the role of:
Kate Keller, mother of Helen. Step-mother of James. Strong female supporting
role.
Seeking a mature woman to play the role of:
Viney Washington, housekeeper of the Keller household and mother of Martha.
Seeking a female actress that can look like a preteen for the role of:
Martha/Blind Girl, double cast role.
Martha will double as a blind girl in a scene at the Perkins School for the
Blind.
Seeking a male actor that can play the role of a young boy:
Percy/Off stage voice, double cast role.
Off stage this actor will play the voice role of Jimmy, Annie's brother who died
during Annie's childhood.
Seeking a mature woman for the role of:
Aunt Ev/Off stage voice, double cast role. Aunt Ev is Captain Keller's sister.
Off stage, this actress would play the voice role of Woman 1.
Seeking a male actor age 16 to 25 for the role of:
James, Helen's half brother. James struggles with his relationship with his
father.
Seeking a mature male for the role of:
Anagnos/Off stage voice, double cast role. Anagnos is Annie's teacher at the
Perkins school.
Off stage the actor would play the voice role of a man.
Seeking a mature male for the role of:
A doctor/A servant, double cast role. Doctor is in Act 1 Scene 1 in a dialogue
role and as an off stage voice.
The role of a servant appears in two scenes in Act 2
Seeking several girls of any age under 18 for the roles of:
A blind girl/Off stage voice
A blind girl/Off stage voice
The blind girls are involved in the scene at the Perkins school.
Off stage characters are female voices that haunt Annie.
Seeking a large breed dog for the role of:
Belle, beloved pet of the Keller family. Belle is in several scenes of the play.
The performer must be able to come, sit and lie down on command, must love
petting and loving
by children and be calm when waiting off stage for cues.
In the script, Belle is a setter, but any large breed dog that is willing to
perform live theater is welcome to apply for the role.
Arrangements would be created with owner/handler to provide a safe environment
for the dog, both on and off stage.
