AUDITION PREPARATION:
Karamu House is looking for for children and teens ages 9 – 18,
all nationalities are welcome. No Prepared monologues will be
required. Instead auditions will consist of readings from the script
Scripts will be provided to you when you arrive. You must prepare
16 measures of an upbeat Broadway song or contemporary song of
your choosing.
 
Please bring your calendar with you to the auditions in order to declare
outright any potential "conflict dates" that you may have. Conflicts
reported after casting may result in re-casting.
AUDITION DATES: November  9th, 10th and 12th at 7:00 p.m.
LOCATION: 2355 East 89th Cleveland Ohio
 
ABOUT THE PLAY: Willy Wonka, the greatest candy maker in
the world, has a problem. Its time for him to retire, but who can
replace him? Who will make new candy dreams come true?
This stage adaptation tells the story of Charlie Bucket as he
receives a golden ticket and visits Willy Wonka's chocolate
factory with four other children from around the world.
 
REHEARSALS:  will start around Nov 22, 2010 and depending
upon the availability of the cast, rehearsals will be 3 – 6 times
per week Mon – Fri, in the evenings.

CHARACTERS:
 
Willy Wonka/Candy Man: Willy Wonka is the mischievous owner of the candy 
factory; Candy Man is the friendly candy salesman, going from town to town
 
Charlie Bucket: A genuinely kind and enthusiastic young boy, and one of 
the Golden Ticket winners
 
Grandpa Joe: Charlie's caring and patient grandfather who comes with Charlie to 
the candy factory
 
Mr. and Mrs. Bucket: Charlie's loving parents
 
Mike Teavee: A bratty and loud TV, video game, and internet junky. One of the 
Golden Ticket winners
 
Violet Beauregarde: Southern gum chewer extraordinaire. One of the Golden Ticket 
winners
 
Veruca Salt: Wealthy, spoiled brat. One of the Golden Ticket winners
 
Augustus Gloop: Extreme over eater. One on the Golden Ticket Winners
 
Ms. Teavee: Mike Teavee's put-together and vacant mother
 
Mrs. Gloop: Augustus Gloop's mother
 
Mrs. Beauregarde: Violet Beauregarde's mother
 
Mr. Salt: Veruca Salt's father
 
James: Charlie's friend from school
 
Matilda: A bully at Charlie's school
 
Grandma Josephina, Grandma Georgina, Grandpa George: Charlie's other caring 
grandparents
 
Phineous Trout: A reporter who announces the Golden Ticket winners
 
Ensemble: The Candy Man Kids, Oompa-Loompas, and Squirrels When you come into 
the theater, you have to be willing to say, "We're all here to undergo a 
communion, to find out what the hell is going on in this world." If you're not 
willing to say that, what you get is entertainment instead ...of art, and poor 
entertainment at that..........David Mamet.
