HORTON FOOTE”S “DIVIDING THE ESTATE” OPENS ENSEMBLE THEATRE’S 31ST SEASON!

Ensemble Theatre’s opens its 31st consecutive season November 19th with
Horton Foote’s American classic *Dividing the Estate*, directed by Sarah
May. It will run in the Brooks Theatre at The Cleveland Play House through
December 12th

Fresh from a successful Broadway revival, *Dividing the Estate* is a funny,
touching and timely portrait of a Southern family wrangling over the future
of the family home* *during an economic downturn.

In the play matriarch Stella Gordon is determined not to divide her
100-year-old
Texas estate, despite her family's declining wealth and the looming
financial crisis. But her three children have another plan. Old resentments
and sibling rivalries surface as the members of this
hilariously dysfunctional - or perhaps all too functional- family go head to
head to see who might claim the biggest piece of the pie in *Dividing the
Estate.*

Ensemble Theatre is proud to celebrate the life and work of playwright Horton
Foote who recently passed away at the age of 92. This is the fifth
production of a Horton Foote play presented by Ensemble Theatre, including
Pulitzer Prize winner *The Young Man from Atlanta*, *The Trip to Bountiful*,
and most recently *The Carpetbagger’s Children*.

Often called “America’s storyteller” or the “Chekhov of small town America”
Horton Foote was a beloved writer whose work spanned many live dramas of
early television, Oscar winning screenplays for *To Kill a Mockingbird* and
*Tender Mercies*, and more than 50 stage plays. President Bill Clinton
awarded him the National Medal of the Arts in 2000.

Director Sarah May returns to Ensemble Theatre to direct a wonderful cast in
*Dividing the Estate*. Her best known work includes *Having Our Say* and *Paul
Robeson* for Ensemble, the Dobama/Karamu co-production of *Caroline, or
Change*, *History Boys* at Beck, and Charenton’s *Six Degrees of Separation*.
Sarah’s staging of *Wings*, starring Dorothy Silver, was seen at Beck Center
earlier this season

Join a star-studded cast including Bernice Bolek, star of Ensemble’s 2004
revival of *The Trip to Bountiful*; Anne McEvoy and Robert Hawkes from the
cast of the critically acclaimed *Wings* at the Beck Center; Laurel Johnson
most recently seen in Brain People at Convergence Continuum and *Humble Boy
*at Dobama, and other well known Cleveland actors Valerie Young, Mark Cipra,
Renee Mathews-Jackson, Aaron D. Elersich, Sara Masterson, Gregory White,
Kayla McDonald, Emily Pucell and Nadine Ndanema for an event not to be
missed this holiday season.

Come Home to Ensemble this Holiday Season with Horton Foote’s *Dividing the
Estate.* Opening Friday November 19th at 8pm, and running Fridays and
Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm in the Brooks Theatre at the Cleveland
