FODfest (Friends of Daniel Pearl Festival) announces
Community Concert Tues, Nov 30 at Beachland Ballroom & Tavern, Cleveland, OH

Strengthening Community through Music

(Great Barrington, Mass.) November 22, 2010 – FODfest (Friends of Daniel Pearl Festival) producers announce a free community concert on Tuesday November 30, 8:00pm at Beachland Ballroom & Tavern in Cleveland, OH. Musicians for the event include Todd Mack, Evie Morris, and others tba. FODfest concerts support the vision that music connects people, creates positive change, and strengthens community. Musicians interested in performing in the unique FODfest performance experience that is part concert, song-swap, and jam session, are invited to get more information at http://www.fodfest.org/perform. Sponsorship, program ads, and Reserved Seating ticket sales benefit FODfest, Inc. programming and those opportunities are still available for this concert. For concerts and events scheduled for the 2010 autumn tour see below.

FODfest has just returned from a two week tour of Israel and Palestine that included school programs and free concerts in community and cultural centers, parks, a bomb shelter, and even an olive grove. Taking FODfest to the Middle East was a direct and powerful application of the organization’s community-building mission and is part of the FODfest Abroad program, which produces FODfest concerts and school programs in areas with a history of conflict and in underserved regions of the world. “Planning and producing this tour was hands down the most challenging experience to date”, says FODfest founder and Executive Director Todd Mack. “But it was also by far the most rewarding. Our events brought together Israelis & Palestinians; Jews, Muslims, & Christians. It was the start of a conversation and music was our language.”

In addition to bringing communities together through free concerts, FODfest reaches out to youth in the communities where they perform with FODfest in the Schools. This program educates, inspires, and empowers young people and is open to all students regardless of their musical background. FODfest in the Schools focuses on the community building power of music and is an extension of the FODfest Concert performed in the community. The eight week program engages students in the collective writing, performing, and recording of songs. These recordings are shared with
other FODfest in the Schools groups in other parts of the world as a way of interconnecting young people across the globe. FODfest in the Schools programs currently in place include Hudson, NY; Torrington, CT; and Pittsfield, MA, with plans to establish the program in Baltimore, Chicago, Atlanta, and other cities across the US and Middle East. Funds raised at FODfest Community Concerts from donations, merchandise sales, reserved seating ticket sales, and sponsorships help support the FODfest in the Schools program. Contact FODfest organizers to learn more.

Background - Founded in 2005, FODfest was created by Todd Mack in tribute to the late Wall St. Journal reporter and personal friend Daniel Pearl, a talented musician who believed in the power of music to connect people. FODfest celebrates this ideal by bringing audiences and musicians of all ages, backgrounds, and musical genres together to perform, often meeting for the first time on stage. To date, FODfest has performed in more than 60 communities across the US, Middle East, and Far East, featured nearly 1,000 musicians, and has reached thousands of people from broad demographic backgrounds. Musician, songwriter, and producer Mack honors his friend with a legacy that reflects the ideals by which he lived.

Mission - FODfest, Inc. is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to strengthen, empower, and educate communities through the universal language of music.
