“I once did a show with a mouth fulla canker sores and pretty bad case of the clap. And I still got a standing ovation” ~Carolyn Dumont

New York songstress Sarah Pesek returns to Cleveland as Ethel Merman in the world premiere staging of Christmas Carolyn. A Vermilion native and graduate of the Baldwin-Wallace Musical Theatre program, Ms. Pesek is a much sought-after voice over artist and cabaret singer in New York City, where her brassy pipes and spot-on impressions gave inspiration for the Ghost of Christmas Present to be portrayed as the one and only Ethel Merman. "If Ethel were alive today even SHE wouldn't be able to tell it wasn't her" says Book and lyric writer Dan Marshall. "I can't imagine doing this world premiere without Sarah, she is The Merm!" Christmas Carolyn, the campy backstage adaptation of the classic, Christmas Carol. Conceived and written by Baldwin-Wallace graduate and MSS Artistic Associate Daniel Marshall, Christmas Carolyn, ushers in the holiday season with cheer, and more than a few laughs. The World Premiere staged reading, playing December 13th (SOLD OUT) and 14th (only 20 seats remain) in the Brooks Theatre at The Cleveland Play House, is sure to be the theatrical event of the holiday season!

On Christmas Eve in Deerfield, Iowa the tired bus and truck company of ‘Sassy Lassy,’ is stranded in a blizzard. Carolyn DuMont, the star of 'Sassy Lassy' and the most hated woman in show business, has just completed her 9,999th performance in the title role. When she demands that her cast skip their Christmas Holiday for a much needed brush-up rehearsal, the cast members revolt, locking her in the theatre overnight. Trapped alone on the stage, and guided by two ghosts (and the spirit of Ethel Merman), Carolyn faces her past and her demons to discover the true meaning of showbiz…oh and Christmas too!

MSS Artistic Director Pierre-Jacques Brault directs the production starring Cleveland's own Hester Lewellen in the title role. Tickets for Christmas Carolyn are available by calling the Mercury Summer Stock box office at (216) 771-5862.
