Cleveland Public Theatre announces auditions for the
NEOMFA Playwrights Festival
3 Workshop Productions of 3 World Premieres

This 3 week festival will feature new works written by graduating students from the NEOMFA in Creative Writing, and CPT has enlisted some of Cleveland's most valued artists to direct and design each production. The NEOMFA in Creative Writing is a consortium of four universities: Cleveland State University, Kent State University, The University of Akron, and Youngstown State University. Each weekend will feature a world premiere work by a graduate student.

Auditions will be held by appointment only:
Tuesday, January 4th: 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Wednesday, January 5th: 7:00pm - 10:00pm

Patterns

What do you author and what authors you? One young woman's life is explored via the metatheatrical act of play creation.  By combining myth, fairy tale, personal history, dress making and play making, layers of conscious reality are laid bare and meaning in one woman's life is prodded, crucified, drawn and quartered, and reconstructed again and again and again.
Looking to cast the following roles:

-       2 women, late 20's/early 40's

-       2 women, 40's/60's

-       1 man, late 20's/early 40's

-       2 men, 40's/60's

Fire Dance

Nicky McManus is a New York firefighter.  His brother Sean is a stock broker in Chicago who returns to the Big Apple after the death of their mother.  Sean decides to stay in New York and move in with Nicky in an effort to reconnect with his brother - and to pursue his old flame, Janice.  When Janice moves into the apartment, however, long-dormant passions are aroused in cold-hearted Nicky, and old rivalries between the brothers come to the surface with consequences that will change them both forever.
Looking to cast the following roles:

-       1 man, late 20's/mid 30's, earthy, strong, fire fighter

-       1 man, late 20's/mid 30's, college educated, stock broker, underlying strength

The Pole

The Pole is a play about a small community of holiday and corporate mascots who share a common bar, called The Pole, and the relationships that exist within.  It focuses on the character of Big Bob aka Robert and his codependent relationship with an iconic local mascot named Santa Nick.
Looking to cast the following roles:

-       1 man, 20's/mid 30's, tall, handsome

-       1 man, 50's/60's, major local celebrity, later a broken shell of a man

-       1 man, 50's, regal looking


Equity agreements may be considered for this festival.

Auditions will be held:
Tuesday, January 4th: 7:00pm - 10:00pm
Wednesday, January 5th: 7:00pm - 10:00pm

Auditions are by appointment only and will be scheduled in 1 hour increments, with 8-10 actors scheduled for each hour.
Actors should prepare a one minute contemporary monologue. You may be asked to read sides that will be provided at the audition.

Each play will rehearse for 4 weeks and perform for one weekend in March in the James Levin Theatre. Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings, with a Sunday matinee.
