The SalemYouth Chorus, Jon Simsic, Music Director, is currently accepting
auditions. Teens and collegiate age young adults are eligible to audition.
Weekly rehearsals are held alternately in Boardman and Salem. The current
ensemble has 20 members.
The Salem Youth Chorus was founded in 2007 in order to provide young singers
with the opportunity to sing great choral musicas crafted by the compositional
masters. In addition to their local concerts and as part of their 2008 summer
tour, the Salem Youth Chorus sang a concert at BrutonParishChurchin Colonial
Williamsburg, VA and then sang Choral Evensong at The Washington National
Cathedralin DC. In July of 2009, they traveled to NYC and sang at The
Cathedralof St. John the Divine. The ensemble just returned in August 2010 from
a tour of the UK, singing in CathedralsinIreland, Walesand England. For the
summer of 2011, the ensemble will be touring in Canada. The ensemble has also
released three CD’s: Morning Has Broken, Evening Reflections andA Festival of
Lessons and Carols. The SYC was a 2010 prizewinner for The American Prize, a
national music competition. With much acclaim and for the third consecutive
year, the ensemble has been invited to be the guest chorus at the Boar’s Head
and Yule Log Festival at St. John’sEpiscopal Church in Youngstown.
The Salem Youth Chorus is an accelerated, “honors” level ensemble. All that are
committed and love to sing are encouraged to audition. The Salem Youth Chorus is
likewise the perfect ensemble for those considering a career in music/theater as
