EURYDICE
Written by Sarah Ruhl
Directed by Barney O’Hanlon
Guest Artist Brian H. Scott
February 10th – February 12th at 8pm
Hall Auditorium, Oberlin College
If music be the food of love, then Eurydice has it all: a totally hot
boyfriend who just happens to be the world’s greatest rock star—and what’s
more, he’s head over heels and he wants to marry her! So why does she keep
thinking about her dead father? And why does she follow a creepy,
interesting stranger into his apartment? And once she has died, and floats
comfortably around a dreamlike afterlife . . . just who is Orpheus
again? Sarah
Ruhl’s peculiar play is* *a haunting modern retelling of the ancient myth in
which a devoted musician ventures into the Underworld to rescue his departed
wife—only this time, the focus is her journey. *Eurydice*, directed by
Guest Artist Barney O’Hanlon of SITI Company, explores the complex nature of
love, both romantic and paternal, as it intertwines with the delicate
workings of memory.
