Youth Theatre classes for children of all ages starting soon

February 9, 2011 Youngstown, Ohio --The Youngstown Playhouse Youth Theatre will offer an exciting line-up of theatre classes for children and teens this winter. Students in grades 1 - 12 will receive instruction for six weeks from award-winning area theatre directors/performers.
The classes will be held on Saturdays and begin February 19th. Here are the course offerings by grade level:

GRADES 1 - 3
"CREATIVE DRAMA" 9:30 am - 10:30 am. Instructor: Monica Beasley-Martin
Designed for the beginner, this class encourages children to explore creative movement and play in an expressive and imaginative environment.
"ADVANCED CREATIVE DRAMA" 11am - Noon. Instructor: Monica Beasley-Martin
Students will build their performing skills with emphasis on characterization, body control, and cooperation with others.

GRADES 4 - 6
"IMPROV WORKSHOP" 9:30 am - 10:30 am. Instructor: Carla D. Gipson
Perfect for beginning and advanced performers, students will cultivate acting skills by learning the basics of improvisation.
"CREATE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE" - 11am - Noon. Instructor: Carla D. Gipson
Students will learn the basics of scriptwriting while creating and performing their own imaginative stories.

GRADES 7 - 12
"THE MAGIC OF THEATRE" 9:30 am - 10:30am. Instructors: Johnny Pecano & Candy DiLullo
This beginning class introduces students to all the elements of theatre including acting, lighting, sound, costumes, and scenic design. 
"ADVANCED ACTING" 11am - Noon. Instructors: Johnny Pecano & Candy DiLullo
Students will analyze, prepare, and rehearse scenes as they explore the process of producing a stage play.

"Youth Theatre classes are a wonderful way for kids and teen to experiment with acting in a comfortable, supportive setting," said Youngstown Playhouse Executive Director Mary Ruth Lynn.

Classes will run Saturdays, February 19th - April 2nd. There are NO classes on March 19th due to the Destination Imagination competition. Class fee is $65 per student. For further information and registration, contact the Youngstown Playhouse at 330-788-8739.
