 Opens March 4 

 

AURORA, OH ----Aurora Community Theatre will perform THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB by Jessie Jones, Nicholas
Hope and Jamie Wooten for a limited engagement at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Mar. 4, 5, 11 and 12.


 

Award-winning Barbara L. Rhoades will direct the delightful, bittersweet comedy, filled with the
zingers that only fast friends and Southern belles can sling. The Ohio Community Theatre Association
prize-winning cast features Jackie Cassara (Sheree), Chris White (Dinah), Denise Bernstein (Lexie),
Kate Tonti (Vernadette) and Jenny Barrett (Jeri Neal) in this hilarious and touching play about
friendships that last forever.

 

THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB crew includes Marianne S. Paul, producer, Towar N. Vilas, stage manager, Val
Hughes on lighting and Paul Chechak as chair of the set construction team. Dorothy Edwards will
serve as house manager with Vicki Rizzo Prato on hospitality and Vilas as board liaison. CPH
Communications will manage publicity and marketing.

 

Five Southern women, who forged their friendship on a championship college swim team, reunite each
summer to catch up, laugh and recharge their relationships with raucous repartee, meddling advice
and genuine fondness.  The play focuses on four of those weekends, spanning a period of 33 years.
When fate throws a wrench into their lives, the women of the Dixie Swim Club gather strength from
each other to prove the enduring power of teamwork and love. 

 

Sheree, the spunky team captain, desperately tries to maintain her organized, "perfect" life. Dinah,
a wisecracking, high-achieving dynamo reveals that her career victories offer stark contrast to the
frustrations of her personal life. Pampered, outspoken Lexie, committed to maintaining her looks and
youth forever, enjoys being married-over and over and over again.  Self-deprecating, acerbic and
acutely aware of the dark cloud that hovers over her life, Vernadette decides to just give in and
embrace the chaos. And sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal experiences a late entry into motherhood
that takes them all by surprise.
