Classical Indian dancer to perform at Kent State University at Stark

Kent State University at Stark Music Department will host Ms. Neelima Raju Kakarlapudi's performance of the Solo Kuchipudi on Saturday, March 12, from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the Main Hall Auditorium, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. The event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

Since 1987, Kakarlapudi has been trained in the art of Kuchipudi, the classical Indian dance from Andhra Pradesh, India. She is one of the young exponents of this art form and is currently a member of UNESCO's International Council of Dance. Performing since 1991, initially as a junior dancer, she rose to the ranks of principal dancer in 1995.

During her performance at Kent State Stark, Kakarlapudi will explain the movements of Kuchipudi, which employs straight line geometry, sensuous curvy moves and graceful hybrids of semi-angular or curvilinear movement patterns.
