2011 Cleveland Asian Festival has a Competitive Edge!

 

Its that time of the year again, when the weather is warmer and Clevelanders
are looking for things to do outside of their homes. Sometimes it is easy to
miss what is just around the corner like the Cleveland Asian Festival. This
annual festival takes place at Asia Plaza, conveniently located on the
corner of Payne Avenue and East 30th Street.

 

Last year this event drew about 10,000 people in just one day. This year to
accompany more attractions and more people this event has grown to two days.
This year the Cleveland Asian Festival will expand to a full weekend- May
21st and May 22nd.

 

Some of the attractions that can be expected at the Cleveland Asian Festival
are the competitions. There will be challenges setup for attendees to try
their hand. You can go one on one with a friend in sumo wrestling. However,
if you are feeling a bit more cautious, there will be food competitions.
Last year, there was an eggroll eating contest in which the contenders
eagerly consumed their portions in lightning speed! With the crowd cheering
them on, it was truly an ebullient demonstration. If you are not in the mood
for eggrolls, that is quite alright. This year, they will be an added samosa
eating competition as well. It will be interesting to speculate how the
contenders will wolf down their triangular potato dumplings.  Each of
winners will be able to take home a medal to commemorate their participation
and good sportsmanship.

 

Among other attractions to be expected are ethnic foods from local
restaurants, a free health pavilion thanks to the Cleveland Clinic, cultural
performances, and children's activities.  It doesn't matter if you are a
long time Clevelander or just passing through, this is one Festival that you
do not want to miss!
