-Workshops begin April 5th-

In April, with Spring in full bloom, Ensemble begins its ambitious new
Theatre Workshop series. The spring sessions will present opportunities for
a wide age range of folks to participate in theatrical workshops, given by
professional Cleveland artists.

For ages (9-12) “*Performing with Percy*” Explores ancient mythology through
introductory character development and scene study. The workshop will use
scenes from the juvenile literature best seller “Percy Jackson and the
lightning thief” by Rick Riordan. 6 weeks, Tuesdays starting April 5th 4-6pm.
($75)

For ages (13-15) “*Acting an Avatar – inhabiting a world*” Explores how
actors inhabit the “world of the play” by creating an “avatar” which
interacts in non-violent scenes based on the imaginary world of Pandora from
the film “Avatar”. Resources will be drawn from the on-line film supplement
“Pandorapedia” and will touch on themes of ecology and community. 6 weeks,
Thursdays starting April 7th 4-6pm. ($75)

For grades 9 and up “*’Struts and Frets’- The Collaboration Experience*”
Will be a comprehensive collaborative theatrical experience and will focus
on creating a performance based on the young adult novel “Struts and Frets”
by John Skovron. The participants will be immersed in all aspects of theatre
collaboration from Script development, directing and acting to technical
elements like lighting and costuming. The workshop will culminate in the
sharing of the collaboration in performance. 13 weeks, Mondays 4-7pm
starting May 2nd and running through August 8th. (Free) Note: This workshop
will be led by Ensemble Director of Operations Ian Hinz and will feature
guest artists from around the Cleveland theatre community and will include
communication with “Struts and Frets” author Jon Skovron. Written parental
permission is required for this workshop due to mature content present in
the text.

For ages (18 and up) “*An ‘Empty Space’ Roundtable.”* This third installment
of the wildly successful Ensemble Stage-Wrights Workshop will focus on
theory. We will read and discuss the text “The Empty Space: A Book About the
Theatre: Deadly, Holy, Rough, Immediate.” By Peter Brook. We will share
“pages” from your new and on-going writing and use Brook’s theories to
provide context and a new framework to discussions. No writing experience is
necessary. You do not have to be a writer to participate in this
discussion-based workshop. Actors and Directors are encouraged to enroll. 6
weeks, Wednesdays April 6th – May 25th (No workshop April 20th or May 4th).
 ($75)
