CANTON, OH – As part of its 79th season, The Players Guild Theatre will present the provocative and groundbreaking theatrical masterpiece, Jesus Christ Superstar. As relevant and timeless as ever Jesus Christ Superstar, the rock opera version of “the greatest story ever told,” is perhaps more potent in today’s troubled world than when it was first produced.
 
Loosely based on the final days of Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ Superstar is rich with passion and powerful music, written by world renowned composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. As Jesus' radical teachings are evermore embraced, Judas increasingly questions the enlightened motives of this new prophet, resulting in betrayal. Christ's final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality. Propelled by a stirring score, by turns driving and majestic, satirical and tender, Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.
 
Featuring such notable songs as Everything’s Alright, I Don’t Know How to Love Him, and the notable title song, Jesus Christ Superstar earned five Tony Award nominations during its original Broadway run in 1972.
 
The cast of Jesus Christ Superstar includes: Vaugh Schmidt as Jesus, Khaled Tabarra as Judas, Bethany Taylor as Mary Magdalene, Christopher Gales as Herod, Chuck Simon as Pontias Pilate, Tom Bryant as Caiphas, and Kristopher North as Peter.
 
The production is directed by Michael Dempsy. 
 
Audiences should prepare to be rocked when they experience this powerful production, running April 15 through May 8, 2011.  Performances on Friday and Saturday evenings begin at 8:00PM and Sunday matinees begin at 2:30PM.
