Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra to "Summon the Heroes" on May 7

With special appearance by Dominique Moceanu, Gymnast and 1996 Olympic Gold
Medal Winner 

 

Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra will perform their spring concert, Summon the
Heroes, at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at the Chagrin Valley Little
Theatre (40 River Street, Chagrin Falls 44022).  A salute to modern-day
heroes of distinguished courage, ability or nobility, the concert spotlights
Olympians, veterans and those in active service, and common man and woman. 

 

A showcase of the impressive achievements of Olympians will include the
beloved Olympic Theme and Fanfare and John Williams' Summon The Heroes,
written for the 100th Anniversary celebration of the modern Olympic Games.
Dominique Moceanu, gymnast and member of the "Magnificent 7" team who
captivated audiences and won the 1996 Olympic Team Gold Medal, will make a
special appearance during the concert and be on hand to meet patrons and
sign autographs after the concert. 

 

Veterans and active servicemen and women will be honored with dramatic music
from the motion picture The Patriot. Appearances by World War II veterans
include Aaron Fox, a marine who served combat in Iwo Jima and Guam; Harry
Guinther, who served 55 missions for the Air Force before being shot down
over Paris and becoming a prisoner of war for one year; Herb Lawyer, a
bomber pilot and First Lieutenant in the Army; and Joe Swartz, a marine who
served in combat and was wounded in the first wave at Iwo Jima.

 

In special honor of  heroes close to all our hearts-Moms-the Studio
Orchestra will perform Mama a Rainbow from the Broadway show Minnie's Boys
in celebration of  Mother's Day. 

 

The concert also includes scores from the motion picture Lord of the Rings:
Fellowship of the Ring and the Broadway show Les Miserables. 

 

Tickets for Summon the Heroes, which is sponsored by Hamlet Retirement
Village, are $25 for adults and $20 for children and students with a valid
