Firestone High School Theatre is in need of a good director with a great
idea for an upcoming theatre project.



*OVERVIEW*

The 2011-2012 Firestone Theatre season is in need of director for a medium
to large-cast theatre production that is African-American or multi-cultural
in nature. Past productions in this slot have included an original dance
play based on the work of local artist Miller Horns as well as productions
of *The Piano Lesson*, *A Soldier’s Play*, *Crowns*, *The Colored Museum*, *for
colored girls . . . *, *A Raisin in the Sun*, *The Wiz*, *On Strivers Row*,
and *The Amen Corner.*

*SUBMISSION*

Each director must submit a one-page summary of the proposed project along
with a current resume and any supporting documentation. Send everything in
attention to the theatre director at Firestone High School, 333 Rampart
Avenue, Akron, Ohio 44313.



*DEADLINE*

All proposals must be received by Monday, May 16, 2011 to be fully
considered.



*SELECTION*

Each proposal will be considered only in conjunction with its director. No
unique project will be produced without the involvement of the proposing
director. A small number of submissions will be selected to discuss more
fully with the director in person. The final selection will be made by the
theatre director and a small committee based on the educational and artistic
value, appropriateness, feasibility, and creativity of the project as well
as the skills, training, and experience of the director.



The ideal candidate is a talented, experienced director or theatre artist
with a palpable passion for their proposal. The ideal candidate will also
have experience working with student actors and motivating teenagers.

*SCHEDULE*

Auditions: September 19, 20, and 22, 2011 (tentative)

Rehearsals: begin no earlier than October 10, 2011. Rehearsals are typically
held weekdays, 3:30 – 6:00 p.m.

Dress/Technical Rehearsal: Sunday, November 20, 2011 (11:00 a.m. to 6:00
p.m.)

Performances: December 1, 2, and 3, 2011 (7:30 p.m.)



*SUPPORT STAFF*

Available support personnel includes a production manager, costumer, scenic
shop foreman, stage management mentor, and hair and make-up designer. The
theatre director serves as scenic and lighting designer. Students typically
serve as stage manager, props designer and sound designer.



*FINANCIALS*

Production budget is set and administered by the theatre director. The
production budget is modest but in line with most high school productions.
Director’s Fee is reasonable and negotiable.



*NOTIFICATION*

The selected candidate will be notified in person or by phone on or before
Monday, June 6, 2011. All other proposals will be returned to the presenter
after that date but before June 27, 2011.



*FIRESTONE HIGH SCHOOL*

Firestone Theatre presents a full season of fun, challenging plays and
musicals. Each season is thoughtfully selected based on its entertainment
value and educational potential. An easily affordable subscription is
available for purchase by students and members of the community. Firestone
is the high school campus for visual and performing arts in the Akron Public
Schools.  Students from all over the city and throughout the area attend
Firestone High School to undertake a rigorous course of study in choral
music, dance, instrumental music, theatre, or visual art.
