“The Drowsey Chaperone” Will Open The 2011 Huntington Playhouse Season
The 2011 Huntington Playhouse Season gets underway on May 12th with a production
of the delightful musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone”. The show will run for four
weekends with performances on Friday and Saturday Evenings at 8:00 PM with one
Sunday matinee on June 5th at 2:00 PM. Monica Olejko directs and choreographs
the show with Heidi Herczeg serving as the musical director.
This delightful musical begins when a die-hard musical-theater fan--played by
Huntington Playhouse Managing Director Tom Meyrose--plays his favorite cast
album on his turntable, and the musical bursts to life in his living room,
telling the rambunctious tale of a Broadway starlet trying to find, and keep her
true love. The Drowsy Chaperone is an homage to American musicals of the Jazz
Age, examining the effect musicals have on the fans who adore them. "Mix ups,
mayhem , and a gay wedding which has a totally different meaning today, but back
in 1928, it just meant fun....which is what this show is.....fun!"
