Springboard

(formerly known as Little Box)



Deadline for director and playwright submissions is

June 13, 2011



In an effort to encourage innovation and risk taking (CPT has completely revamped its Little Box series) Springboard will perform in the Fall of 2011. Springboard seeks to nurture the growth of emerging and established directors, support the development of new scripts, and act as a catalyst for forming and deepening relationships between playwrights and directors. Springboard will invite the audience to play a part in the process through publicly performed stage readings and post-show discussions.


How Springboard Works
CPT will simultaneously receive proposals from directors and playwrights. CPT will select a few directors who will then act as a team, under the guidance of Executive Artistic Director Raymond Bobgan, to select among the submitted scripts. Each director will then be assigned one script to direct as a staged reading. Directors and playwrights will work together to cast and develop the reading. Each will receive a very small stipend. CPT will provide limited rehearsal space, and the staged readings will be presented the week of Nov 7-13.

Springboard is not about completed works, but it is about seeking excellence. It's about creating meaningful connections and taking risks.

Directors will be expected to attend several meetings for script selection, read multiple scripts, and direct one staged reading.

Playwrights will be expected to attend all rehearsals and engage in developmental discussions with directors and series producers.

Directors will receive a payment $200. Playwrights will receive $100.

CPT will promote the series through its season brochure, a press release, and a print piece, but it's really going to be up to the participating artists to get the word out. Since the work being done is in development, there will be no critics invited.


Springboard '11 Director Application

In selecting directors for Springboard we are hoping to form a team with diverse training and backgrounds. We are looking for directors interested in innovating and in developing new work. Because directors will need to accomplish a great deal of work in the selection process, we will be looking for hard working people who can get the job done.

We are not necessarily looking for the most experienced directors. We want to find directors that will truly benefit from being part of this series.

Springboard '11 Playwright Application

In selecting plays for Springboard we are seeking works that are in development and playwrights who are interested in working on their scripts.

Playwrights are expected to participate in the rehearsal process and respond to feedback from directors and producers.

We are not necessarily looking for the best scripts. We want to find projects that will truly benefit from being part of this series and playwrights that want to form and deepen relationships with directors and actors.
