Guitar Workshop at Malone

Canton, OH. Fingerstyle guitar technique has been made popular by artists like the legendary Phil Keaggy and others. The Malone University College of Theology, Arts, and Sciences – Department of Music is pleased to offer a workshop – taught by instructor of Applied Guitar, Adam Cord -- that will focus on some of the trademark sounds and techniques of Phil Keaggy. The Fingerstyle Guitar of Phil Keaggy two-day workshop will be conducted June 24 from 6:30 – 9 p.m. and June 25 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in room 122 of the Johnson Center for Worship and the Fine Arts, located at 2600 Cleveland Avenue, Canton. Cost of the workshop is $60 and includes all classroom materials. Guitars are required. For more information, contact Adam Cord at acord at malone.edu or 330-794-4408.

His creative and experimental approach to the instrument has pushed the boundaries of fingerstyle guitar in new directions and won Keaggy fans and accolades from all over the world.

The Fingerstyle Guitar of Phil Keaggy workshop will offer students the chance to study three of Keaggy’s compositions from different eras of his rich career. “Evensong,” “Paka,” and “Epilogue” will be analyzed using new in-depth transcriptions created specifically for this class. The transcriptions are given in both standard music notation and guitar tablature.

Adam Cord has a degree in fingerstyle guitar performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and has performed and studied Phil Keaggy’s music for many years. He has chosen these three Keaggy compositions specifically because they are in a graduated series of difficulty, so fingerstyle guitarists of virtually any skill level will be able to have a productive and fun time. A multi-media presentation using audio and archival video will help students get the most out of learning these guitar masterworks.

Malone University, a Christian university for the arts, sciences, and professions in the liberal arts tradition, affiliated with the Evangelical Friends Church, awards both undergraduate and graduate degrees in more than 100 academic programs.
