Summer is heating up at CVLT!
It seemed like Summer took forever to finally arive this year, but here
at CVLT things are definitely already hot! We've just wrapped up the
critically-acclaimed production of /Don't Dress for Dinner/ on our main
stage, and those who were so lucky as to attend the /Music of the Moody
Blues/ fundraiser concert last weekend, featuring Time Traveller and the
Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra, can certainly attest to the amazing
power of rock music with a full symphony, professional lighting and
sound. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to bring this thrilling
event to life!
The River Street Playhouse stage lights up this weekend with the second
biennial *10-10 NEW PLAYS FESTIVAL
<http://www.cvlt.org/81stSeason/10-10.php>*. For just $10 you'll see 10
actors in 10 brand new 10-minute plays. That's just a buck per one-act!
What other theater offers you that kind of entertainment value? At the
end of the month, the River Street Playhouse continues entertaining with
CVLT treasures Don Edelman and Frank Mularo starring in Neil Simon's
brilliant comedy, *THE SUNSHINE BOYS
<http://www.cvlt.org/81stSeason/sunshineboys.php>*, sponsored by First
Federal Lakewood.
On our main stage this month is Richard O'Brien's *THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW
<http://www.cvlt.org/81stSeason/rockyhorror.php>*, the original rock 'n'
roll, b-movie musical that spawned the record-breaking cult film /The
Rocky Horror Picture Show/. Diehard fans of the movie and the
uninitiated are all invited to dress up, rock out, and "do the Time Warp
again!"
The second sessions of CVLT's *Youth Theatre
<http://www.cvlt.org/youth>* begins July 11 and runs through July 22
(for younger students) and through July 30 for older students. See
http://www.cvlt.org/youth for complete details and registration forms.
In addition, CVLT's box office will be acting as the offline ticket
source for the Chagrin Foundation for Arts and Culture's
Chautauqua-in-Chagrin <http://www.chagrinarts.org/> series, which starts
July 12.
July is also the month for the beginning of the Theatre's Annual
Financial Appeal to support its operating expenses. This is a vital
element in CVLT's ability to put on quality performances with affordable
ticket prices. Thank you for your past and future support.

CVLT launched the inaugural /10-10 FESTIVAL/ back in 2009, putting out
the call for short plays to be performed at our River Street Playhouse,
the smaller venue adjacent to the main theater building. The first
/10-10/ that July was a resounding success, receiving submissions from
all over Northeast Ohio and beyond, so it was decided that it should
become a biennial event.
After doing a 'blind reading' of this year's many submissions, CVLT is
pleased to present the second edition of the /10-10/, featuring the
following new works:
* */The Bathroom
/ by Robert Fortlage *
(Beachwood, OH)
* */Or, What You Will/
by Bob Abelman*

* */Under the Table/

*(Oberlin, OH)
* */Bipolar Physics/

When Richard O'Brien's musical comedy/THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW/ opened in
London in 1973, it was in a theater with just one-fourth the seating
capacity of CVLT. Although critics gave the musical positive reviews, it
wasn't until the 1975 film adaptation became a midnight cult hit in
Greenwich Village that things really took off. Thirty-six years later,
/The Rocky Horror Picture Show/ is the longest running theatrical
release in cinematic history, still playing monthly at Cleveland's
Cedar-Lee Theater. Movie audiences arrive in costume and, knowing the
script inside and out, shout rude jokes and sing along with the songs as
actors in costume act out the movie in the theater's aisles. Now CVLT
audiences can see the original funny, sexy, rock 'n' roll musical that
started the worldwide phenomenon.
THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW combines the flamboyant glam rock of the late
1960s and the lowbrow B-movie aesthetics of the early 1960s into an
oddball narrative that's ultimately about fierce individuality and
sexual freedom. The Narrator (Don Bernardo) tells the unlikely tale of
naive teenagers Brad (Damian Henri) and Janet (Arianna Taxman), who get
a flat tire on the way to announce their engagement to their favorite
teacher, Dr. Scott (Eric Sofer). Seeking a telephone at a nearby spooky
mansion, they are swept into the dominion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Steven
R. Tiderman), a cross-dressing mad scientist with a laboratory-built
loverboy named Rocky Horror (Ralph DiLudovico). Along with his creepy
servants, Riff Raff (Brandon Hood) and Magenta (Leah Frires), groupie
Columbia (Michelle Unger) and delivery boy Eddie (Chad Duwe), Frank
draws these unwitting teens into his unconstrained world of devious
schemes and kinky space aliens. Also populating this bizarre realm are
The Phantoms, an ensemble of lost souls played by Kelly Aker, Brianna
Arko, Nikolai Fedyszyn, Samantha Gebler, Laura Rightnour-Henri, Andrew
Kondik, Alex LaForce-Marzullo, M.J. Mihalic, Jennifer Ryan, Patricia
Welsh, and Scott Zolkowski.
The plot is typical B-movie nonsense, serving mostly as a framework for
O'Brien's catchy rock songs like /The Time Warp/, /Science Fiction
Double Feature/, and /Sweet Transvestite/. The Phantoms are beckoning
you - "don't dream it, be it"! Get your tickets now.
*NOTE:* CVLT is presenting the live musical theater piece which the film
was based on, not the film itself. We encourage fans of the movie to
arrive dressed up as their favorite characters and do the "Time Warp"
with us, but we ask that they not bring any 'props' to the theater so
that we may keep our auditorium clean and safe for everyone.

In this award-winning comedy from playwright Neil Simon (/The Odd
Couple, Lost in Yonkers, Biloxi Blues)/, Al Lewis and Willy Clark are an
aging former comedic duo from the vaudeville era. Although "Lewis and
Clark" made the audiences laugh like no one else in their heyday,
off-stage they couldn't stand each other. Their partnership ended when
the act finished, and they haven't spoken in over 20 years. But now
Clark's nephew Ben wants to recruit the duo to revive their act for a
televised special, and is discovering that convincing these crotchety
old comedians to put aside their differences is a hilarous challenge!
CVLT's production, which is sponsored by First Federal Lakewood
<http://www.ffl.net/branches/atmlocations/chagrinfalls.bnc>, stars
long-time friends and CVLT co-stars Don Edelman as 'Al Lewis' and Frank
Mularo as 'Willie Clark'. These two have hundreds of hours of stage time
between them, and audiences will agree that there has never been a
better vehicle for their talents than THE SUNSHINE BOYS! Director Kate
Tonti has cast Stephen Kay as the nephew 'Ben', with Amber Slane and
Jackie Cassara as 'the nurses', Bob Fortlage as 'the patient', Jenny
Barrett as the 'stage manager' and Chris White as 'the voice/producer'.
Seating is limited and general admission, so we recommend advance ticket
reservations.
