[NEohioPAL] Tech Workshop at the Medina Performing Arts Center

A successful stage production requires more than just the actors.  The lights, sound and set are necessary to create the scene for the audience.  Ever wonder how it’s done?  The Medina Performing Arts Center staff will be offering free Technical Theatre Workshops this summer.  Topics scheduled for discussion are:

Lighting:
Fixtures – types, functions, uses
Color mixing – CMY, RGB, Gel selection, purpose
DMX protocol – basic understanding of intelligent lighting
Lighting control console – recording cues, subs, groups, patching
Hang and Focus
Lighting Plots
Electrical – cabling, dimmers, plugs
Safety – wrenches, safety cables, fixture alignment, ties
Maintenance – lamp replacement, cleaning, lenses, shutters, bench focus

Sound:
Wired Microphones
Mixing Console – channels, subs, auxs, equalization, inserts
Patching
Amplifiers
Speakers – types, uses
Wireless Microphones – frequencies, placement
Monitors – assignment, position, purpose

Rigging:
Fly System – usage, maintenance
Battens
Counterweights – types, sizes
Safety – balancing, operation, procedure

The program is divided into two workshops:

Workshop I will be offered July 12-15, from 7-9p.  This is a lecture only class.

Workshop II will be offered July 18-21 from 7-9p. Completion of Workshop I is required to register for this class.  This is a lab/hands-on class.

The workshops are free for City of Medina residents (ages 13+).  A registration fee of  $50 will be charged to non-residents.  Class size is limited and registration is required.

All classes will be inside the Medina Performing Arts Center Main Stage, 851 Weymouth Road, Medina.
