"Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar & Grille", opens the long running
community theater troupe's 67th Season. With performances scheduled for
November 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 & 19 the thought provoking dark comedy will be
directed by Ron Cuirle. Please come prepared knowing which character/s you'd
like to read for. Consideration for casting will not be restricted to the
roles for which you read at the audition unless you state otherwise. All
adult ages will be considered for all roles. The role of Joe is open to
both men and women. Sides will be provided at the audition. If you cannot
get a hold of the script ahead of time, the director will be happy to
provide you sides in advance. Please email him at ron at cuirle.com for more
information. Roles are available for 5 men and 2 women or 4 men and 3 women.

Funny, irreverent and at the same time thought provoking, the show is based
on the question: "you have only one day left on earth, what would you do?"
Forget mass hysteria and anarchy in the streets, if your name is Shep and
you tend bar in western Pennsylvania, its one last day of business and some
rather odd decisions. Intelligent and humerous, everything is kept low key.
The show zeros in on a well defined group of strangely upbeat small town
folk as they unceremoniously come to grips with their impending doom.then
God walks into the bar. Yes, it sounds like the setup for a bad joke but
that's what happens.he then approaches Shep with an offer that's out of this
world. Funny, witty and intelligent with a surprisingly upbeat end, it's a
show that has something for everyone.

In fact Variety wrote: "Early One Evening at the Rainbow Bar & Grille" is a
serio-comic tale of love, death, rebirth and a very strange book deal. The
preposterous, but often affecting and almost always hilarious proceedings
are peppered by visual shtick and one liners."

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

These character descriptions are rough drafts created by the director and
are provided to give you a head-start on your audition. They are completely
open to interpretation and may not match with the way that you see the role.
But that's okay! Use your audition to present your vision. An audition
that surprises and spurs thought goes a long way.

Shep is a writer whose time for fame has come ... a little too late.

This dreamer turned cynic just isn't surprised by anything anymore.

His passion isn't gone, but what's the point in being passionate when the
end of the world is here?

Roy is an honest opportunist and dreamer. Until recently, he lived
vicariously through others. Now he takes what he can from life with the
hopes of having the life that everyone else has always had. He is the
caricature of the "always happy man" - never mean and never deceitful.

Willy is an equal opportunity offender, an ex-military man and now a
self-appointed judgment day official. Society has never allowed him to exact
justice the way that he sees fit. Now, the slightest offense to Willy may
result in your execution.

Bullard loves his job as a traveling salesman. He lives to sell, not vice
versa. It allows him to live on the edges of society and, in true salesman
fashion, mold himself into whomever he needs to be.

Bullard is fake - but he's been everything to everybody for so long he
doesn't know it.

Shirley has a soul hardened by disappointment and rejection. By and large,
she wants what she can't have, can get what she doesn't want, and always
settles on something in between. This does not, however, depress or
discourage her from always trying.

Virginia is a fighter and is the type to never give up on what she wants.
She pursues her desires until she captures them; works at her goals until
she achieves them. And then she starts over with new ones. As a phys-ed
teacher, she is fit and an active jogger.

Joe is God. Really. What else is there to say?

The Hudson Players are an all volunteer non-profit community theater
organization and one of the longest running theater troupes in the area.
Volunteers are always welcome to assist with a variety of tasks including
publicity, poster distribution, set building, costumes and more. Auditions
to their shows are open to all with no restrictions. Additional information
is available at www.hudsonplayers.com <http://www.hudsonplayers.com/> , by
emailing info at hudsonplayers.com or by calling 330-655-8522.
