[NEohioPAL] Etymological question for theatre folk

I believe that this was instituted as a result of actors being requested to act on their sides. Particularly the more avante-garde work that flourished in the 60's. Actors would find that if they acted on their sides, as opposed to on their feet , that a rush of inspiration would flow more spontaneously.
