The Solon Italian Club has opened up tickets to its ‘one-night only’ special
event featuring the magnificence of Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece, Madama
Butterfly, on Saturday, October 8 at Solon Center for the Arts. The Solon
Italian Club is proudly celebrating Italian National Heritage Month with
Italian Heritage Night at the Opera. The first two performances of the opera
were completely sold out last week and played to cheers and standing
ovations. Those who could not get tickets to the opera now have the good
fortune to come for this exciting evening. Tickets are $40.

The evening begins at 6:15 pm with a Wine and Cheese Party presented by
Solon’s newest establishments, Swirl, A Wine Bar. Stage Director Jonathon
Field will join the party for a pre-show talk about the performance. The
curtain rises at 7:30 pm for a fully-staged opera with 21 piece orchestra
followed by a ‘Meet the Artists’ reception in the SCA Gallery. In addition,
opera-goers will also have the privilege to view a stunning exhibit on loan
from the Consulate of Italy in Detroit called “Americhe: Storie di Emigrati
Friulani Negli USA” telling stories of Friulian emigrants in the United
States by photographer Francesco Nonino.

The show stars Northeast Ohio’s brightest and best talents including Marian
Vogel as Cio-cio-San, Timothy M.R. Culver as Lieutenant Pinkerton, Brian
Keith Johnson as Sharpless and Kimberly Lauritsen as Suzuki. It is directed
by one of America’s most versatile and popular stage directors, Jonathon
Field. The SCA Opera Orchestra is conducted by Kerry Glann.

Madama Butterfly is in partnership with Kent State University’s Hugh A.
Glauser School of Music Opera Workshop. The production receives public
support with local tax dollars from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture, to preserve and
enrich our region’s artistic and cultural heritage.

Additional support is from Friends of Solon Center for the Arts and the
Founding Members of the Signature Series.

“Usually opera is experienced in a big theater with thousands of seats,”
said Karen Prasser, executive director of SCA. “Solon’s intimate 200-seat
theater brings you closer to knowing each character and the lovely
Butterfly, who gives up everything for love. I believe it can bring a new
meaning to one of the world’s most beloved operas. It is a theatrical and
musical experience not to be missed!”

Solon Center for the Arts is located at 6315 SOM Center Road on the corner
of SOM and Bainbridge Roads in Solon. For more information or to purchase
tickets by phone, call (440) 337-1400.
