October 14th marks the French Creek debut performance of one of the
Cleveland area's best singer/songwriters. Maura Rogers, often noted as "five
pounds woman, eight pounds voice" will be appearing for a free one hour
concert of original songs in the intimate setting of the French Creek Nature
and Arts Center.

"I've been trying to book Maura," says concert host Bob Sammon, "for several
years now and I'm very excited that we'll be able to present her to our
audience for the noon concert."

According to Rick Fortney, the Artistic Director of TrueNorth Cultural Arts,
"Maura is a perfect example of the kind of talent we're trying to showcase
this season. She's a wonderful vocalist with a subtle guitar style. We're
very happy to have her on the schedule this year."

Last year Maura Rogers released her first solo CD, "Get Up Girl", filled
with moving lyrics crafted from personal relations and keen observation of
human connections. Featuring her powerful voice contrasted with her delicate
finger-style guitar work, the collection contains many of the songs she'll
be performing at French Creek. In addition, concert patrons will be treated
to some of the music Maura has been creating since the release of the CD.

"It's hard to really categorize Maura," says Bob Sammon. "If you're familiar
with the work of Stevie Nicks, Amy Ray, Bruce Springsteen, Ani DiFranco, or
Patti Griffin you'll hear echoes of their sounds but Maura is too unique a
talent to try to put her in those boxes." Sammon says that Maura's vocals
range from playful to sultry and touch most emotions in between. "The first
time I heard her perform I was astonished by how the room quieted down to
listen to her. I watched that happen over and over again and I see that as a
testament to her power as a performer and her control of her craft."

The *8th Note Cafe* will be open during the performance for pizza, hot dogs,
soda, coffee, and refreshments.

TrueNorth is located in the French Creek Nature & Arts Center, 4530 Colorado
Ave (Rt. 611), Sheffield Village 44054, just 10 minutes west of Crocker Park
and 25 minutes from downtown Cleveland. The 2011-2012 season is sponsored by
TrueNorth, the Lorain County Metro Parks, and the Morning Journal.
