Accent on Youth (AOY)  is a program sponsored by the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre and supported by the Ridgecliff Foundation. Now in it's 6th year, it is a vital and growing program that uses live theatre to address current social issues relevant to young people.

The actors involved with AOY perform plays that focus on pertinent issues such as relational aggression, cyberbullying, and substance abuse, and the students perform only within their own school system.  Every performance is followed by either a question and answer period with the actors and the entire audience or break out sessions during which actors work with smaller groups to have informal discussions about the subject presented.

The student actors receive community service hours, two tickets to a production of their choice at the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, and a $25.00 stipend.

We are currently looking for students from the following high schools to participate in programs scheduled for the 2011-2012 school year:

Mayfield, Chagrin Falls, Solon, Kenston, West Geauga, Orange, and Aurora.

The rehearsals for a program usually extend over a four week time period, and are scheduled according to the availability of the students involved.

This is not a touring company, the actors selected would be involved with either one or two shows and would perform only for their own school system.

Recent examples of Accent on Youth programs are:

West Geauga High School students presented a play about alcohol abuse for the health classes at their own high school. (2010, 2011, 2012)

Mayfield High School Students presented plays on peer pressure  for Millridge and Lander Elementary (2010, 2011)

Solon High School students presented a play about cyberbullying for Orchard Middle School. (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011)

Chagrin Falls High School students presented a play for the Chagrin Falls Intermediate School on safety issues while walking to school (2010, 2011)

Kenston High School students presented a play addressing domestic violence for a parent-student event at their high school (2011)

Orange High School students presented a play on celebrating differences in people for Moreland Hills Elementary. (2011)

If you are interested in being involved with this rewarding program please respond to this Email as soon as possible.  We will be setting up interview times in the next two weeks.

We look forward to hearing from you!

AOY coordinator
