Cellist Saeunn Thorsteinsdottir to Perform Free Concert at LCCC

Charismatic cellist Saeunn Thorsteinsdottir will perform a free concert
at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 25 at Lorain County Community College's
Stocker Arts Center.

Thorsteinsdottir's performance is part of the Signature Series and is
hosted by composer and LCCC Distinguished Visiting Professor Jeffrey
Mumford. The concert is sponsored by LCCC's arts and humanities division
in partnership with the Cleveland Institute of Music and Cleveland State
University.

Her performance will include Maurice Ravel's "Sonata for Violin &
'Cello" with violinist, Annie Fullard of the Cavani Quartet, and Jeffrey
Mumford's "to find in the glimmering air  . . . a buoyant continuity of
layering blue."

Thorsteinsdottir has appeared as recitalist and chamber musician across
the U.S., Germany, Poland, Italy, France and her native Iceland and has
performed concerti with the Des Moines Symphony (Iowa) and the Silesian
Philharmonic (Poland) and many others. She has garnered numerous top
prizes, including the Janigro Family and Romanini Foundation awards at
the Antonio Janigro International Cello Competition in Zagreb, Croatia
and most recently, the Zara Nelsova Award at the 2008 Naumburg
Competition in New York City.

Sigrun Heinzelmann, Assistant Professor of Music Theory, Oberlin
Conservatory, will present a brief pre-concert lecture entitled
"Listening to Ravel: The Expanding Tonal Language of his Late Works."
Concert will immediately follow the lecture.

The concert is presented in partnership with MOCA Cleveland.
