Christmas Carol Rag” at SCA*

Solon Center for the Arts is seeking three actors to complete our cast for
“The Christmas Carol Rag", a heartwarming, musical retelling of Dickens’ “A
Christmas Carol". We have assembled an exceptional cast that includes many
of Cleveland’s most talented performers. You’ll become an important part of
an ensemble cast where every actor plays an important part in the play.

The outstanding roles are:

* *

*Ruthie/Ghost of Christmas Present*

Ruthie is an immigrant sweatshop worker who dreams of a better life and
interacts with Mrs. Cratchit in word and song. The Ghost of Christmas
Present is Scrooge’s sassy guide to salvation who leads the cast in a show
stopping gospel rendition of “Go Tell it on the Mountain". *African-American
woman, age 16 - 45*

*Bob Cratchit*

Bob Cratchit inhabits the spiritual heart of the play. The long-suffering
foreman of Scrooge’s tenement sweatshop, he is husband to sweatshop worker
Anne Cratchit, who is expecting the couple’s first child. He sings the
turn-of-the-century standard “Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland” with his wife. *Any
ethnicity, age range 20s - 30s*

*Fezziwig/Bobby*

Fezziwig is the business mentor to young Evelyn Scrooge. A joyous, jovial
man, he leads the cast in the Al Jolson vaudeville standard “Where Did
Robinson Crusoe Go (with Friday on Saturday Night?)". Bobby is a struggling
old-school ac-TOR who celebrates Christmas with Scrooge’s nephew Fred. *Any

*ABOUT THE PLAY
*The Christmas Carol Rag” is set in 1911, a time of ragtime and
sweatshops. Ebenezer Scrooge is gone, replaced by Evelyn Scrooge, who runs
her sweatshop with an iron fist. She finds redemption after being visited by
a Yiddish-spouting Ghost of Christmas Past and a gospel-wailing Ghost of
Christmas Present. The score, which includes work by Victor Herbert and
George M. Cohan, brings the age old Christmas story to life with rousing
production numbers set to familiar songs from "Hello, My Baby" to "The
Streets of New York." Wildly funny and deeply moving, “The Christmas Carol
Rag” brings a new twist to an old chestnut.
