[NEohioPAL] A Project and Performance Piece on Autism

Hello, everyone!



I want to introduce myself.  My name is Brittany Jackson and I am the
Assistant Director of the Center for Literature, Medicine and Biomedical
Humanities at Hiram College.



I have been working with three students from varying majors and backgrounds
on a project about autism this semester.  We have been meeting and learning
about autism; the science, the history, the memoirs, and fiction pieces
that talk about autism.  The students have interviewed several people,
including parents, families, doctors, educators, and those who have autism,
as well.  The final product which they will have completed in late November
will be a performance piece about autism.  We don’t know what it will look
like yet, as they are just now beginning the writing process!



This project will hopefully educate high school and college students, as
well as the broader public about autism. The hope is to educate those who
come to the performances about the power of the arts to illustrate the
dynamic between those living with the disease and those providing their
care, about the lives of those who may be quite different from themselves,
and about the role of the arts in the ongoing conversation of health care
in this country.



I am writing first, to let you know about this project, and second to let
you know that we will be touring the performance piece in March, March 5 –
9, 2012 to be exact.



We would like to bring it to your school, organization, library, or area
for free!  Our set will be minimal and we will be able to perform in most
spaces.  We are beginning to take reservations now.  Please email if you
