Character breakdown:

Michael Evans ~ YOUNG MAN, NARRATOR, SON OF Chris, plays his adult and child

Kate Mundy ~ female, 40, teacher, devoutly Catholic, sensitive

Maggie Mundy ~ female, 38, housekeeper, lighthearted, thoughtful

Christina Mundy ~ female, 26, Michael's mother, alternates between optimism and depression

Rose Mundy ~ female, 32, developmentally disabled, vulnerable, knitter

Agnes Mundy ~ female, 35, quiet, contemplative, knitter, Rose's protector

Gerry Evans ~ male, 33, Michael's father, charming, often absent, comes and goes

Father Jack ~ 53, missionary priest, returned from Uganda, respected, lapses in memory

 

The play takes place in Ballybeg, County Donegal, Ireland, in the summer of 1936. All actors will need to use an Irish dialect in the performance.

 

Audition Preparation 

Please prepare a monologue of your choosing.

If you don not have a monologue, one will be provided for you to read.

You will be asked to try a dialect in the audition.

 

Director: Katherine Burke teaches Art of the Theatre, Art of Acting, Acting Process, Voice, Devising Theatre, and private singing instruction. Prior to teaching at KSU, she taught for over a decade at Purdue University. Burke has worked nationally and internationally using applied and interactive theatre for conflict resolution and social change, addressing such issues such as diversity, discrimination, substance use, and bullying.  Directing credits include Six Characters in Search of an Author; Carousel; Of Mice and Men; Urinetown; and May 4th Voices, an original play in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the Kent State shootings on May 4th, 1970. She is a skilled vocal and dialect coach as well, and has coached dialects for such plays as Candida, Mary Queen of Scots Got her Head Chopped Off, and Under Milkwood.
