IRISH PLAYWRIGHT CONOR MCPHERSON BACK AT ENSEMBLE WITH ONE MAN SHOW *ST.
NICHOLAS*!

Ensemble Theatre, Cleveland's home for "Modern American Classics" and
"Locally Grown, Organic, Professional Theatre" continues its 32 consecutive
season November 18th with Conor McPherson's one-man gothic human comedy, *St
Nicholas*, directed by Sarah May starring Dana Hart. It will run in
Ensemble's new space in the former Coventry School in Cleveland Heights
through December 11th.

Fresh from a successful Off-Broadway revival* at the Irish Repertory
Theatre, St. Nicholas *finds an aging jaded theatre critic recounting his
obsession with a young actress, and how that obsession leads to a journey
into a macabre world of vampires from which he almost can’t escape.

*"A man, late fifties. A bare stage." And so the stage is set for a master
story teller's tale of *a jaded, skirt-chasing Irish theater critic who
falls hopelessly in love with a young and heartbreakingly beautiful
dancer/actress from the famed Abbey Theatre in Dublin. Following the young
actress to London, the critic is drawn into a world of big-city vampires; a
world that is elegant, sophisticated, and in the end, soulless. It is an
often-hilarious journey of desperate love and agonizing self-discovery. It
is also a witty assault on modern culture, where too often greed and
self-gratification replace reflection and generosity of spirit.

*“... a delectably droll celebration of storytelling as striptease... The
narrative, without interrupting its own flow, swings through so many forms
of storytelling, from the kinds of extended, self-serving lies born of
drunkenness to a proper Brothers Grimm-like fable, which the narrator
remembers being told by a vampire named William. The exotic is described
with pedestrian matter-of-factness, while the ordinary often assumes a
grotesque glow.” - Ben Brantley NYTimes** *

Ensemble Theatre is proud to bring the work of Olivier Award Winner and
three-time Tony Award nominee Conor McPherson back to NE Ohio. Cleveland
audiences will remember Ensemble's 2002 production of McPherson's *The
Weir directed
by the late Associate Artistic Director Licia Colombi. *Ben Brantley of the
New York Times calls McPherson "... quite possibly the finest playwright of
his generation."

Director Sarah May returns to Ensemble Theatre to direct Dana Hart in *St.
Nicholas*. Her best known work includes *Dividing the Estate, H**aving Our
Say* and *Paul Robeson* for Ensemble, the Dobama/Karamu co-production
of *Caroline,
or Change*, *HistoryBoys, and Wings with Dorothy Silver* at Beck, and
Charenton’s *Six Degrees of Separation. *Sarah’s sold-out staging of *Race*,
is currently running at Beck Center.

Join beloved local actor Dana Hart most recently seen in *Woody Guthrie's
American Song* at Actor's Summit, *Big River at *True North and *My Fair
Lady* at Beck Center as he takes his turn in this one man quirky holiday
treat. Ensemble audiences will remember Dana's performances in *Steelbound* and
as Anton Chekhov in *My Writer, My Actress.*
