Kent State University at Stark Theatre announces open auditions for Evil Dead: The Musical



Kent State University at Stark Theatre has announced open auditions for the season's musical production of Evil Dead: The Musical. The book and lyrics are by George Reinblatt and the music is by Frank Cipolla, Christopher Bond, Melissa Morris and George Reinblatt.

Evil Dead: The Musical combines elements of the Evil Dead and Army of Darkness cult classic films for a blood-splattering theatrical experience. The story follows five college students who get abandoned at a cabin and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them into demons. Hailed as "The next Rocky Horror Show" by the New York Times, the hero in this campy musical of horror and hilarity must wield his trusty chainsaw to save the day. Limbs are dismembered and demons tell bad jokes while performing uproarious numbers, such as All the Men in my Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons and What the F#%$ Was That? This production contains gratuitous profanity, gore and adult subject matter.



Auditions will be held on November 28 and 30 from 7:45-10 p.m. in the theatre of the Fine Arts Building, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. Callbacks will be on Thursday, Dec. 1.



Auditions are open to everyone, including students and community persons. Roles are available for eight performers with an age range of 20-30 years old. Auditionees should prepare two short, contrasting musical selections (approximately 16 bars each) and bring sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided.



Audition appointments are recommended. Please schedule your appointment with the Fine Arts Building secretary by calling 330-244-5151. Librettos are available for perusal for periods up to 24 hours from the Fine Arts secretary, Monday through Friday, during business hours (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.), and in the reserve area of the Kent State Stark Library.
