The Shaker Heights High School Theatre Arts Department, in collaboration with the Music Department, proudly presents Leonard Bernstein’s musical comedy Wonderful Town, with book by Joseph A. Fields and Jerome Chodorov and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green.
The six ...time Tony-Award winning Wonderful Town is the wacky adventures and misadventures of two sisters who move from their comfortable hometown in Ohio to 1935’s bohemian Greenwich Village, to fulfill their dreams. Ruth is an aspiring writer, average in appearance and can't keep a man's attention - no matter what. Eileen, a fledgling actress, is Ruth's opposite. She is a beauty, who - without even trying - has men falling at her feet. Along the way they encounter artists, Irish cops, Brazilian sailors, a football player, nice guys and wise guys. The musical score offers a wild ride through 20th century musical styles with everything from ragtime, to swing, to that trademark brassy Bernstein.

Directed by Department Chair Christine McBurney with Music Direction by Dr. Robert Schneider, the production features more than 90 students in a variety of roles ranging from performers, to musicians, managers, designers, and fundraisers. Among the 10 adult staff members involved in this production are, Erik Johnson (Co-Producer), Wendy Kriss, (Choreographer) Donna Jelen (Pit Orchestra Conductor), Derdriu Ring (Gaelic Coach), Kathryn Mussleman Tobasko, (Costume Designer), Julia Johnson (Box Office Manager), Chuck Tisdale (Technical Designer), and Brian McCann (Stage Manager).

With Zoe Davidson as Ruth, Hannah McCandless as Eileen, and Jonah Weinstein as Robert Baker. And...

• Performances of Wonderful Town are at 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 1st, Friday, December 2nd, and Saturday December 3rd, 2011 in Shaker Heights High School’s Large Auditorium (15911 Aldersyde Dr).
• Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and senior adults. Online sales are scheduled to begin at 8am on November 16 and end at 1pm on the day of the production(s). Box Office will be open from 3-4 the week of the production and 7-8 on Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Patrons at the Associate level must reserve their seats using the 24 Hour box office at 216-295-4287.
Named a center of excellence by the National Council of Teachers of English, Shaker Theatre offers daily classes in Playwriting, Theatre Management, IB Theatre Arts, Acting, Ensemble, Improv, and Film, and a production season including four main stage performances, several showcase performances, and many more touring performances, guest artist residencies, and special events.
