Nov. 25 to Dec. 18, 2011

$12 Preview Performance, Friday, Nov. 25 (only!)

Join Coach House Theatre in Akron for a charming "screwball comedy" for
Christmastime, The Philadelphia Story!

In this classic play which inspired the Academy Award-winning movie, a
society girl (Tess Burgler) tries to prepare for her wedding amidst the
chaos created by her philandering father, snoopy tabloid reporters, and her
handsome ex-husband (Joe Pine.)

The Philadelphia Story, by Philip Barry, will be presented Nov. 25-Dec. 18.
Curtain times are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., with Sunday
matinees at 2:30 p.m. Dinner or Brunch is available to all theatre patrons
prior to every performance at the Akron Woman's City Club next door.

There will be a special $12 preview performance Friday, Nov. 25 only, at 8
p.m. (Please note that although previews are usually on Thursday nights,
this one is on Friday because of Thanksgiving.)

The official opening night is Saturday, Nov. 26. Group rates for holiday
gatherings or office celebrations are available.

Tickets are $18. The box office opens one hour before the show. Coach House
Theatre is located at 732 W. Exchange Street, in Akron, next to the Akron

The Playwright

Philip Barry (1896-1949) was a prolific playwright, and many of his works
were comedies of manners. The Philadelphia Story, arguably his best known
play, was written specifically for (rumored lady friend) Katherine Hepburn,
who played Tracy Lord both on Broadway and in the popular 1940 film, which
also starred Cary Grant and James Stewart. The movie won two Academy Awards
including Best Actor for Stewart. The play was also adapted into the popular
1956 musical movie High Society starring Frank Sinatra, Grace Kelly and Bing
Crosby. Barry's play Holiday (1928) was also made into a film starring Grant
and Hepburn, in 1938.

And don't miss the rest of Coach House's fantastic 2011-12 season:

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, January 26-February 19

A Moon for the Misbegotten by Eugene O'Neill, March 22-April 7

Move Over, Mrs. Markham by Ray Cooney and John Chapman, May 10-June 3
