Caryl Crane Children's Theatre is presenting the World Premiere of Jennifer the Unspecial: Time Travel, Love Potions and 8th Grade, the winning play of the 2011 Ronald M. Ruble New Play Festival, December 1st – 4th in the McBride Auditorium at BGSU Firelands College. This pop-rock musical about time-travelling 8th graders was written and submitted by first-time playwrights, Matthew Mezzacappa and Cynthia Chi-Wing Wong as part of the first annual Ronald M. Ruble New Play Festival in May of this year. Jennifer the Unspecial: Time Travel, Love Potions and 8th Grade was chosen “Outstanding New Work” and “Festival Winner” out of the 77 plays submitted for the national competition, and is being given its first fully-staged production on the BGSU Firelands Campus December 1st – 4th.

Jennifer the Unspecial: Time Travel, Love Potions and 8th Grade is an original musical about Jennifer, a shy, quirky girl just trying to fit in, and her 8th grade friends, who get sucked into a time machine and end up in ancient China, Elizabethan England, and even the age of the dinosaurs, changing the course of history as they go. Through her adventures, Jennifer eventually realizes she doesn't need to fit in or have anyone's approval, to be absolutely amazing, special and even help change the world for the better. This family friendly musical is one-part ‘Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventures,’ one-part ‘Magic School Bus,’ and ALL fun! The perfect holiday outing for the whole family.

CCCT Artistic Director, Brian Marshall, directs the new work featuring this year’s Huron River Fest Queen, Emily Wiseman, in the title role. All seats are $5 for the show and may be purchased at the McBride Box Office in the North Building on BGSU Firelands Campus one hour prior to curtain. All proceeds from the production support the CCCT Teen Board’s community outreach efforts.
