THE CHRISTMAS CAROL RAG AT SOLON CENTER FOR THE ARTS BRINGS A NEW TWIST TO
THE HOLIDAY FAVORITE

Evelyn Scrooge runs her sweatshop with an iron fist, but slowly opens her
heart as she is visited by a Yiddish-spouting ghost of Christmas Past and a
gospel-wailing Ghost of... Christmas Present. Solon Center for the Arts
presents “The Christmas Carol Rag” by Norman Allen, a wildly funny and
deeply moving musical that brings a new twist to an old holiday chestnut,
on December 9, 10 and 11.

Directed by Solon resident and one of Northeast Ohio’s most acclaimed
actors, George Roth, this version is set in 1911 New York – a time of
ragtime and sweatshops. The music brings the age-old Christmas story to
life with the great music of Victor Herbert and George M. Cohan. The cast,
including some of Northeast Ohio’s finest talent, perform rousing
production numbers to “Hello, My Baby” and “The Streets of New York.”

SCA is also proud to present the incredible talent of Adina Bloom as Evelyn
Scrooge. This is Ms. Bloom’s first appearance on the Solon stage. However,
she performed the role of Evelyn Scrooge at the Cleveland premiere at
Kalleiope Stage Theater several years ago. Ms. Bloom is Solon Center for
the Arts’ first engagement with an Equity Actor.

Also in the cast is Dani Apple, who plays the double role of Agnes and The
Ghost of Christmas Past. Ms. Apple was the first place winner of the Teen
Category at last summer’s Home Days ‘Solon’s Got Talent’ competition. She
also played the role of Maria in the Solon High School Drama Club’s
production of “West Side Story.” Ms. Apple has grown up at Solon Center for
the Arts. Her first starring role at SCA was that of ‘Kili’ in the 2003
production of “The Hobbit” when she was only 8 years old.

Another SCA family tie is that “The Christmas Carol Rag” will feather six
of SCA Spotlight Youth Theater actors including Olivia Chamberlain, Kyle
Fisher, Andrea Friedberg, Hannah Kulawiak, Graham Roman and Danielle
Stanek. Plus both Ms. Bloom’s daughter, Zanna, and Mr. Roth’s daughter,
Olivia, are part of the youth chorus.

“The Christmas Carol Rag” is the final production of the SCA 2011 Signature
Series generously supported by the residents of Cuyahoga County through
Cuyahoga Arts and Culture. SCA also receives support for the productions
from Friends of Solon Center for the Arts and Founding Members of the
Signature Club.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and students. All seats are
reserved and include a ‘Theater Preview’ with the director 45-minutes
before the curtain and a ‘Meet the Artists’ reception immediately following
in the Gallery. Curtain is 7:30 on Friday, December 9 and Saturday,
December 10. The Sunday, December 11 performance is a matinee at 3:00 pm.

Solon Center for the Arts is located at 6315 SOM Center Road. For tickets,
call (440) 337-1400.
