"Yankee Tavern" has conspiracy theories on tap at CVLT - 2/2/12
CHAGRIN FALLS, OH - YANKEE TAVERN by Steven Dietz, a taut comic thriller
from one of America's leading contemporary playwrights, will have you on
the edge of your seat beginning on February 10th at CVLT's River Street
Playhouse under the direction of Don Edelman.
Adam (Christopher DiMichele) is a young grad student on the fast track
toward marriage and a career in the CIA. He's filling in for his late
father behind the bar at the Yankee Tavern, an old gin joint in lower
Manhattan scheduled for demolition. Adam has also inherited his dad's
friend Ray (Bob Fortlage), a possibly schizophrenic conspiracy theorist
who rattles on about everything from Starbucks and the moon landing to
Yoko Ono and the Bay of Pigs. Ray even talks to dead people in the
abandoned hotel upstairs where he crashes.
All seems under control until Palmer (Don Bernardo) arrives, a
mysterious stranger who seems to know far too much about the 9/11
attacks. Suddenly, Ray's ranting does not seem nearly so far off base.
And when the wedding invitations to his half of the guest list start
coming back as undeliverable, Adam's fiancée Janet (Amy Pelleg) begins
to suspect a mystery even closer to home. Will monumental secrets be
brought to light before the walls come down on the Yankee Tavern or will
they be buried with the bar?
YANKEE TAVERN plays on CVLT's River Street Playhouse stage Friday and
Saturday nights at 8 PM from February 10 - 25, 2012. Tickets are $10.
Some material in the show may not be suitable for younger audiences. For
