Perhaps televising the Olympic gymnastics
competition has prompted gymnastics popularity.  But did you know that the Czechs have promoted gymnastics since 1862 not
only to build physical abilities but as a path tointellectual
development -- the sound body/sound mind concept?  And, did you know that only three years later
the gymnastics movement, called Sokol, was imported to the United States?  Did you also know that Sokol Greater
Cleveland has a vibrant gymnastics program for adults and children and that it
is showcased each February at the Sokol Greater Cleveland Winter
Exhibition?   Fun is incorporated in
their classes to encourage participation and learning, and fun will be
demonstrated at this year’s exhibition taking place February 25th at
the Cuyahoga Heights High School gymnasium, 4820 East 71st Street.

The festivities begin at 6 pm with a pre-program
concert by the Sokol Greater Cleveland Concert Band.  Then at 6:30 pm the program begins with a
rousing march into the gymnasium by all participants.  The program of gymnastics and aerobic
demonstrations by over 250 class members, ranging in age from 3 to 80, is fast
paced and will include dancing by the Sokol Czech Folk Dancers.  A social gathering with light food and
beverages will follow at Bohemian National Hall, 4939 Broadway Avenue in Cleveland.  Advance sale tickets are $5 per person but
tickets are available at the door for $7 per person.  The public is invited to both the exhibition
and the social.  For tickets or
information, contact Howie Wise at 216-642-1429.
