CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Macbeth – A Scottish general and Thane of Glamis. Before there was Darth Vader there was Macbeth. Lyric Baritone.

Lady Macbeth- Macbeth’s wife, a deeply ambitious woman who lusts for power and position. High Belt (Think: Christina Aguilera or Idina Menzel)

The Three Witches- Three hideous and sexy mysterious creatures who plot mischief against Macbeth. Must able to hold harmonies.

Banquo- Macbeth’s best friend whose children, according to the witches’ prophecy, will inherit the Scottish throne. Tenor

Fleance- Banquo’s son. Tenor

King Duncan/Doctor –The good king of Scotland and Macbeth’s friend whom Macbeth murders. Baritone

Macduff- A Scottish nobleman hostile to Macbeth’s kingship from the start. Tenor

Lady Macduff- Macduff’s wife. Soprano

Malcolm-The son of Duncan

Porter/Murderer-comic baritone

Ross/Captain/Murderer- Tenor

AUDITION MATERIAL SUGGESTIONS:

Singers should prepare 2 rock songs. 1 up-tempo, showing off ability to rock out and 1 mid-range to slow tempo that shows off musical flexibility and range. Songs should showcase your vocal and acting abilities.

The songs should be from musicals such as: The Who’s Tommy, Jesus Christ Superstar, Rent, Next to Normal, Spring Awakening and selections from Broadway pop-rock musicals such as Wicked, Chess and Les Miz etc. would be appropriate.

No standard Broadway tunes (Rodgers and Hammerstein, Sondheim and such).

Gentlemen should be looking at rock artists like: The Who, Van Halen, Early Genesis, Alice Cooper, Yes…

Ladies check out: Janis Joplin, Pat Benatar, Alanis Morrisette, Heart, Stevie Nicks, Blondie…
