Now in their 19th year of delighting area audiences with superior quality
ballet performances, BTO is thrilled to bring back this classic comedic
ballet to enchant young and young-at-heart alike.

The ballet *Coppelia* features an eccentric doll maker Dr. Coppelius, a
feisty village girl named Swanilda, her fiancé Franz, and a very lifelike
doll named Coppelia. Enchanting humor abounds as Swanilda and her four
friends sneak into the doll maker’s workshop and create havoc with their
mischief. The whole family will be delighted by the magical scene inside
Dr. Coppelius' workshop where his mechanical creations come to life! As in
every classic fairy tale, true love prevails, but not without a few twists
and turns along the way.

Ballet Theatre of Ohio invites each child who attends a performance of *
Coppelia* to visit Dr. Coppelius' workshop in the upper salon at the top of
the Grande Staircase in the stunning Akron Civic Theatre. Upon arrival at
the theatre, every child will receive a special key which grants them
access to the magical world of the toymaker Dr. Coppelius. Children will
be delighted to interact with the charming “mechanical dolls” and receive a
small treasure from each doll.

*Coppelia*, like all of our beloved ballets - *Nutcracker, The Wizard of Oz
*and* Sleeping Beauty - *is captivating for the entire family with its
light-hearted humor, gorgeous costumes, sets and choreography as performed
by a talented troupe of professional and pre-professional dancers. With a
charming score by Leo Delibes, this delightful ballet is the perfect
introduction to the world of classical ballet.

The heroine of the story, Swanilda, is performed by Sarah Ruesch from
Tallmadge. The role of Franz will be danced by Damien Highfield (Akron)
and Brian Murphy (Akron) will perform the role of Dr. Coppelius. Swanilda’s
friends will be danced by Courtney Cleminshaw (Hudson), Amy Ott (Stow),
Angela Trivelli (Kent) and Abigail Wilhite (Tallmadge).

Generous funding for this season is received from The Margaret Clark Morgan
Foundation, Akron Community Foundation, OMNOVA Solutions Foundation and
Target. If you would like to help BTO to continue to bring professional
quality performances at family affordable prices to the Akron Civic
Theatre, please visit the website for information.
