Cleveland Orchestra's James Kayln to Join LCCC Civic Orchestra for April 22 Concert

The Lorain County Community College Civic Orchestra will conclude its 2011-2012 season with a richly varied concert at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, April 22 in the Stocker Arts Center.

The Cleveland Orchestra's saxophonist James Kayln will join LCCC's Robert Beckstrom and the Civic Orchestra in Alexander Glazunov's "Concerto in E-flat for Alto Saxophone & Orchestra." Kalyn's performance of this beautiful work will demonstrate why he has enjoyed a distinguished and celebrated career as a saxophonist and clarinetist. Before Kalyn takes the stage, the orchestra will perform the very popular "Olympic Fanfare & Theme," by Hollywood composer, John Williams.

The second half of the concert will feature Anton Webern's "Sechs Stücke für Orchester, Op. 6," and Antonin Dvorák's "Slavonic Dances, Op. 46 & 72." Webern first composed his exploration of abstract color in 1909 and revised it in 1928. The Dvorak dances are among Dvorák's most popular and beloved compositions. Two of them (No. 6 and No. 7) will be conducted by LCCC music student, Nickolas Penfound.

Tickets are $7 for adults; $6 for LCCC students and staff; and $6 Buckeye cardholders. To order tickets, call (440)366-4040 or stop by the Stocker Arts Center box office from 12-6 p.m. weekdays.
