The Carnatica Brothers to perform music from India at Kent State University at Stark

Kent State University at Stark's Music Department proudly presents a concert of Indian music by The Carnatica Brothers on Thursday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Main Hall Auditorium, 6000 Frank Avenue NW, North Canton, Ohio 44720. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

The Carnatica Brothers, Shashikiran and Ganesh, are grandsons of the legendary chitravina genius Gottuvadyam Narayana Iyengar. Prodigies since the age of two, they have emerged as front-ranking Carnatic musicians.

The duo will entertain with expert vocals, accompanied by classic Indian instruments, such as the chitravina.

The Carnatica Brothers have performed more than 3,500 concerts in India, the United States, Europe, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates. The group has garnered much acclaim with their emotive singing style and strict adherence to classicism. Among their many accomplishments, the duo performed a marathon 24-hour concert without one break in 2006 to mark World Peace Day and honor victims of various natural calamities and terrorist strikes.

Shashikiran, a trained vocalist and mridangist, is a much sought-after guru and has students all over the world. He is also the author of Carnatic Fun-task-tic - Learning Carnatic Music is Fun!, a book for beginners, advanced level students, performers and teachers of Carnatic music.

Ganesh is among the best chitravina performers in the country today. In May 2004, he set a record for the longest concert by any slide instrumentalist in the world by playing non-stop for 32 and half hours. In addition to his instrumental skills on the chitravina and the Hawaiian guitar, Ganesh is an accomplished vocalist and has been featured on several albums.
