Ancient Greeks/Modern Lives: Actors' Workshop Twinsburg Public Library

This is a free one-hour workshop on the staging of classical plays, to be presented by the Aquila Theater Company of New York City.  For the past twenty years, Aquila’s productions have received critical and audience acclaim, and the Twinsburg Library is delighted to be among those chosen to host a group of this caliber. The New York Times describes Aquila as “a classically trained, modernly hip troupe.” Their Master Class Mask Workshop is part of a major national humanities program traveling to public libraries and art centers across America:  Ancient Greeks/Modern Lives: Poetry-Drama-Dialogue. It is open to a limited number of adult actors, teachers and others interested in the performing arts. Particpants are limited to 30; When full, registration will be taken for observers who may also participate in discussion.

The critically-acclaimed Aquila Theater company will appear as part of a major national humanities program traveling throughout the United States with a mission to inspire people to come together to read, see, and think about classical literature and how it continues to influence and invigorate American cultural life. The New York based troupe will present a staged reading of scenes from Greek Drama, including selections from Homer’s Odyssey, Aeschylus’ Agamemnon, Sophocles’ Ajax and Euripides’ Herakles. The performance will be followed by a Town Hall style discussion with Ohio State University classics professor Tom Hawkins. Aquila actors will also hold a workshop on staging classical plays at 6 p.m. open to a limited number of adults at no charge.
